Children's Dental Care & Orthodontics specializes in making that first time at the dentist fun and setting a good foundation for oral hygiene that will stay with your child for their lifetime.
Visiting the dentist for the first time can be an all-new adventure for our young patients. While the first checkup or cleaning may not be something a child has done before, we at Children’s Dental Care & Orthodontics understand first-time visits are important and special. Dr. Carla LaLande specializes in making the dentist visit fun while providing a foundation for oral hygiene that will last a lifetime.
By the time your child reaches one year of age (or within 6 months after the first tooth comes in), it is generally recommended that a child comes in for their first check up. This initial visit is an incredible step towards ensuring that your child’s dental hygiene is in the best condition possible. Additionally, establishing a dentist visit early on helps parents to learn and identify important aspects of how to establish a good dental regimen and learn how to clean their child’s teeth. This visit can also be used to identify any potential fluoride needs for your child.
Be sure to let Dr. LaLande know if you have any specific reason for your visit as early on as possible. This allows our staff to provide you with any helpful instruction that you can begin to explain with your child. We always recommend that you plan for different physical and emotional reactions from your child as sometimes very young children may have difficulties sitting still. We recommend that you discuss with your child on what to expect from this experience, and try to make it a fun experience. If you have been to a previous doctor, please bring those records with you.
The first visit is more of a “meet and greet” experience, usually focusing on a brief examination and cleaning, but mostly where your child can meet Dr. LaLande, and become comfortable with the office environment. We love working with children and want to make their experience enjoyable for them as well. Occasionally, we realize that we may need to reschedule. We also might find that shorter, but more regular visits, make the experience less stressful. In the end, however, we do realize that every child is unique and prioritize our efforts to make sure that the experience is as pleasurable as it can be.
At Children’s Dental Care & Orthodontics, we focus on building relationships and confidence so that follow up dentist visits will be comfortable and part of their regular dental routine.
I brought in both of my children (6 and 4), the staff was so friendly, patient, and accommodating. From the receptionist, the hygienist, to the dentist there is a high degree of professionalism exhibited throughout!
